The week before christmas me and Simon took part in a ‘bloggers trip’ to La Plagne, France.
Setting off from dover always seems to be a rainy/misty experience, thanks to Holiday auto’s we boarded the ferry in 3 brand new Skoda Octavia’s. It was a pretty impressive feat fitting 12 people and 12 ski/snowboard bags AND luggage! The cars did well to carry all that weight and still get us to La Plagne in 10 hours!
We were provided accommodation by Snow Chateaux and they really did look after us!
Chalet Castor in the village of Les Coches was where we spent the week, out of the 7 bedrooms in the chalet we we’re given a beautiful double room with a balcony looking out onto the slopes.
The on suite bathroom was perfect too, a nice soak in the bath was appreciated as it didn’t stop snowing for about 4 days!
The amount of snow that fell during the week was amazing, it gave us an opportunity to ride the whole mountain rather than sticking to the park all week like we usually do! We managed to ride 4 resorts during the week thanks to the guys at Snow Vole
Our early starts in a chalet with 13 other people never quite went to plan! but that was all part of the fun i guess! It was nice walking downstairs to the smell of fresh baked croissants and bread on a morning. Les Arc and La Plagne were right on our doorstep, you could even catch a chairlift from right outside the chalet that linked you up with either resort. The village of Les Coches is a perfect location as it is has a nice rural feel to it, yet you are only minutes away from the slopes.
We were lucky to get a lot of powder during the week! even at 2pm you could still find fresh tracks!
I loved that when we arrived back at the chalet after a long day there would be freshly baked cakes waiting for us! The couple’s that cooked for us we’re great, they were so friendly and really made sure we had everything we needed. Meals on an evening were delicious, every night we were treated to a different dish accompanied by endless amounts of wine.
To top the evening meal off, nothing is better than sitting by a roaring open fire! oh wait, maybe the outdoor hot tub could top it off! The chalet really was a nice place to relax at, it even had a tv and xbox to keep you entertained but surprisingly it hardly got used! The atmosphere there was brilliant and really gave you a chance to get to know the other people you were staying with. We met a lovely chap called Bern who was there with a guy called Jake, they brought along some Dual Snowboards for us to have a play on, and i must say don’t judge if you haven’t tried them already because they are a lot of fun. They are kind of a snowboard that’s split in half, you still use snowboard bindings so they are comfortable its just hard getting used to not having your feet on one board!
It’s nice to have the challenge of learning something new!
A great week was had by all and it was a nice way to relax before christmas, i would certainly recommend staying with Snow Chateaux, The guys there are all amazing and will make sure you have an amazing week. If you are planning on taking a trip somewhere keep this in mind, they do some cracking deals for families too!
